Gazing into the Abyss
Are you looking for something that is deep and powerful to read? If the answer is yes, checkout “Things I Think About And Other Works…” by Nadia Ramelle. Described as a book of “thoughts and stories shaped by years of challenges, failures, violence, wins, and moments of clarity”. Things I Think About, brings you into the mind of an artist, former law enforcement officer, and U.S. Army Veteran. One who has seen death and had death see her. Creating a catalyst of change, and light, in the form of words and creative expression.
From surviving life-threatening encounters to wrestling with nightmares of the past, her words resonate deeply, offering a sense of solidarity to anyone who has struggled emotionally. Blending personal reflections, gripping stories, and profound insights, Nadia crafts a work that is as emotionally stirring as it is thought-provoking.
“I bore witness to a tremendous and uncommon amount of violence, hate, and rage.
I have witnessed death in a way that is unimaginable.
I have witnessed the unthinkable violations of men, women, children, and animals.
I have seen maimed bodies,
womens teeth pushed through their lips,
burned corpses,
brains leaking from ears,
abused women and children,
sexual assaults of women and children,
dead children, dying at the hands of those who were supposed to love and protect them.
Seeing a dead child in these ways changes something inside of you.
Couple that with the expectation that this was par for the course: working overtime, testifying, handling caseloads, calls for service, dealing with peers, and engaging in politics, all while attempting to maintain some normalcy in my personal life.
And as I was told I chose the careers, I chose the city; that was my cost of doing business,
…deal with it
I have been on a search for an understanding of myself and other humans.
I am a lifelong learner and curious about all aspects of life.
That curiosity led me to write some thoughts and share some stories.”
— Enjoy. Nadia
