Talisman Soul: A Sanctuary of Self-Discovery and Healing in Coeur d’Alene

By Hayden Hudiburg

Tucked in the heart of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Talisman Soul is more than just a metaphysical shop, it’s a vibrant, welcoming space where free expression, healing, and self-discovery take center stage. Under the new ownership of Alex Straub, the store reopened in July 2024 after a brief closure, returning with a renewed purpose: to be a home for the nontraditional and a refuge for anyone seeking connection, clarity, or simply a place to be themselves.

This space is about acceptance and making people feel comfortable. We’re not here to judge, we’re here to help.”

“I want people to come in and be who they are.” Alex says. “This space is about acceptance and making people feel comfortable. We’re not here to judge, we’re here to help.”

Talisman Soul offers a diverse range of services including Reiki, shadow work, sound healing, and life coaching. When it comes to goods their shelves are lined with essential oils, herbs, crystals, books, Tarot card decks, incense, smoke clearing tools, candles, statues, pendulums, singing bowls, and journals. Each item thoughtfully curated to support spiritual growth and personal empowerment.

Alex's main tool for healing is Reiki. Despite his initial skepticism toward the healing modality, Alex’s perspective shifted after experiencing its impact firsthand. “I couldn’t deny how powerful it was,” he says. “Reiki made me feel more grounded, more in tune with myself and the universe.” Today, he’s all in, sharing the benefits of Reiki, which include stress and anxiety reduction, pain relief, and enhanced well-being, with anyone open to exploring it. Shadow work is another core offering at Talisman Soul, and is about facing the darker parts of oneself, not with shame, but with compassion. “It’s a way to become friends with yourself,” Alex explains. “To see your worth, even in the parts you’ve hidden.”

The future is bright for Talisman Soul. With a second location set to open in Spokane Valley, Alex is eager to expand the reach of his mission: helping others, fostering acceptance, and creating a ripple effect of positive change.

“I just want to make a difference in the world,” he says simply. And if the warmth and intention that fills Talisman Soul is any indication, he already is.

Events:

● Alex regularly hosts "Tea and Tarot," a free biweekly event held every other Tuesday, starting on the second week of each month. It’s an open invitation event primarily for those curious about Tarot to meet, mingle, and practice. Although other subjects are welcome to be discussed with the main emphasis being on community building.

● Talisman Soul hopes to be at Pagan fest there this year in September in Spokane Valley.
