Moby (born Richard Melville Hall in 1965) is an American musician, producer, and activist known for pioneering electronic music and promoting animal rights. He began his musical journey studying classical and jazz instruments before playing in punk bands in the 1980s. Moby rose to fame with his 1991 single "Go" and achieved global success with Play (1999), an innovative album that sold over 12 million copies and broke ground by licensing every track for film and TV. He continued to evolve musically with albums like 18, Hotel, and Reprise, and in 2023 released Resound NYC, reimagining his work with orchestral arrangements. Alongside his music career, Moby is a vocal vegan and animal rights advocate, author of two memoirs (Porcelain and Then It Fell Apart), and subject of the documentary Moby Doc, which reflects on his personal and artistic journey.
